Summary
- Frontier, The Great, and Mindhunter are TV shows that have recently concluded but could potentially be revived due to their strong premises, open storylines, and audience demand.
- The Resident, Riverdale, and Ted Lasso are also potential candidates for revival, with enough demand and a chance to recapture the magic of their earlier seasons.
- Killing Eve, New Amsterdam, The Goldbergs, and Suits could potentially be revived based on their popularity, controversial endings, and the possibility of capitalizing on nostalgia.
With the trend of reviving old TV shows gaining traction in recent years, it’s useful to look at a few recently concluded shows that could be in line for their own revival. Many notable TV shows were cancelled in 2023, which provides an extensive list of shows that could be revived at some point down the road. Further, the last five years have seen a number of other notable series cancelled or concluded that might one day be in for a revival.
TV revivals aren’t always as successful as networks might hope, but that hasn’t scared them away from continuing to revive old classics. With that in mind, some of the most popular cancelled or concluded series of the last few years could still be in for the revival treatment, while other shows are less likely to be revived. Of all the TV shows that have ended in the last few years, 10 stand out as having a realistic chance of being revived.

10 TV Show Revivals That Released Long After Fans Had Moved On
Whether they’re welcomed or not, there are plenty of TV shows that come back years after coming off the air, long after fans had checked out.
10 Frontier — Premiered In 2016
Concluded in 2018
Frontier is a historical drama series that follows Jason Momoa’s Declan Harp, an infamous trapper with a Native American mother and an Irish father. Harp spends the series trying to prevent his people, the Cree, from being bullied out of the fur trade by the ruthless Hudson Bay Company. Though the show was cancelled after its third season, Frontier has a strong premise with plenty of open storylines that could fuel a revival. If Momoa were willing to return for a potential continuation of the series, and if enough fans pushed for it, there’s a real chance Frontier could return.
9 The Great — Premiered In 2020
Concluded in 2023
The Great is one of the cleverer satires of the last few years, garnering no shortage of critical acclaim over its three seasons. The show follows Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning), Empress of Russia, satirizing the life of renaissance age aristocrats and juxtaposing modern humor with the brutal realism of the Russian court in the 18th century. Despite shining reviews from critics and a multitude of awards, the show’s ratings must have fallen too low to warrant a renewal. Even so, some key questions remain after The Great‘s finale, so a fourth season revival could be on the horizon.
8 Mindhunter — Premiered In 2017

Mindhunter

- October 13, 2017
- Cast

Mindhunter, is a psychological thriller that premiered on Netflix in 2017. Unfortunately, the show’s expected third season was cancelled due to disagreements over the budget. This seems strange considering Mindhunter met with immediate success upon its release, and the show seemed like it was being set up for a years-long run. After its abrupt cancellation, fans of Mindhunter were left perplexed as to why such a popular show would be cancelled after only two seasons. However, if the audience demand is there, it’s easily conceivable that Mindhunter could eventually be revived.

The Resident is a medical drama from Fox, following the lives of various hospital staff members as they struggle with the flawed bureaucratic practices that control the healthcare industry. The Resident ran for six seasons, gathering a sizable following over its 5-year run. Though it was cancelled by Fox after its sixth season, there are plenty of ways the show could be revived if enough demand for it materialized. Moreover, the issues in the medical industry that it focuses on are as prevalent now as ever, so there would be no shortage of real-life inspiration for a potential revival.

Riverdale‘s ending finally arrived in 2023 after the show’s impressive 6-year run, but doors remain open for a potential return to the series. Though Riverdale notoriously dipped in quality after the first few seasons, a few years off might give the show what it needs to recapture the magic of those early seasons. It is certainly popular enough for a revival to be considered, but it would be best if there were a few years inbetween for fans to move on from the disappointment of the show’s decline and embrace the nostalgia of those outstanding early seasons.
5 Ted Lasso — Premiered In 2020

Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso immediately became the flagship program for Apple TV + when it launched at the tail-end of 2019, proving to be the platform’s most attractive series during its formative months. The show’s success continued to grow, earning Ted Lasso numerous major awards and nominations. Since the series’ conclusion in 2023, fans have been begging for a spinoff, but a Ted Lasso season 4 revival seems more likely. The potential revival would almost definitely happen without the show’s titular character after he finished the show in the perfect place, but plenty of other avenues exist for a revival to explore.
4 Killing Eve — Premiered In 2018
Concluded in 2022
Killing Eve
- Release Date

Killing Eve follows a British Intelligence officer (Sanda Oh) trying to track down a psychopathic assassin named Villanelle (Jodie Comer). As the show progresses, a mutual obsession grows between them, leading to a tense thriller that enraptured legions of fans during its four-season run. Killing Eve is certainly popular enough to warrant a revival at some point. Further, the show’s final season was controversial, and it has been suggested that a Killing Eve season 5 could save its legacy, providing further incentive for a reboot of the series, at least for one more season.
3 New Amsterdam — Premiered In 2018

New Amsterdam

- September 25, 2018
- Cast

New Amsterdam is an NBC medical drama that follows Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) as he attempts to transform one of the United States’ oldest hospitals into a modern and well-equipped medical facility. The show ran for five seasons and 89 episodes over a five-year span, proving to be one of the more consistent medical dramas on network television. Though the series was eventually cancelled after its fifth season in 2023, it could easily be revived based on the series’ conclusion. As per most series, New Amsterdam‘s revival chances are reliant on public demand.
2 The Goldbergs — Premiered In 2013
Concluded in 2023
The Goldbergs
- Release Date
- September 24, 2013
- Cast
- Jeff Garlin , Wendi McLendon-Covey , AJ Michalka , George Segal , Hayley Orrantia , Sam Lerner , Sean Giambrone , Troy Gentile

One of the biggest sitcoms of the past decade, The Goldbergs quickly became a staple for ABC after it initially aired in 2013. While a revival seems unlikely in the short-term, iconic sitcoms like this often get revivals several years after their conclusion. The rumors of The Office getting a reboot are enough to prove that. Once fans have gone a few years without new episodes of The Goldbergs, it’s entirely possible that ABC opts to revive the show for an extra season or two to capitalize on nostalgia.
1 Suits — Premiered In 2011
Concluded in 2019
Suits
- Release Date
- June 23, 2011
- Cast

Talks have surfaced around a potential Suits spinoff materializing, but a traditional revival could be a better choice. Suits follows a corporate law firm in New York City, and it has recently found a second wind in the streaming world, becoming one of the most popular shows on Netflix. This beloved legal drama could be best served by bringing in a few of the original characters along with a few new ones, setting itself up as something between a spinoff and a revival. Either way, the show’s fanbase is easily energized enough for a Suits revival to be viable.
