Megamind 2 Debuts With Shockingly Low Rotten Tomatoes Score

by Xtreme HD IPTV

Summary

  • Megamind 2’s
lousy Rotten Tomatoes score couldn’t be much worse, as only three critics have taken the time to even post reviews, at the time of this writing.
  • Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate
crashes and burns on Rotten Tomatoes with an audience score of only 10%.
  • Despite negative reviews, some viewers find enjoyment in
    Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate
thanks to its character development and humor.

Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a 0% approval rating, and it is clear that even the inclusion of the original Megamind’s Will Ferrell wouldn’t have saved this catastrophic train wreck. The sequel to 2010’s animated comedy makes its long-awaited debut this weekend, but both fans and critics have rejected the movie as a shadow of its predecessor. At the time of this writing, only three critics have even bothered to share their views on the movie, all of them “rotten”. Meanwhile, the film’s RT audience score sits at a dismal 10% against 250+ ratings. Collider’s Erick Massoto writes:

With vaguely established threats and storylines, Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate is the movie equivalent of meeting a friend you missed for many years only to realize that the encounter didn’t really need to happen.

Runtime
83 Minutes

One glaring issue The Doom Syndicate faced well before it was even released was the noticeable absence of a star-studded cast, which made Megamind so enjoyable. Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Ben Stiller, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill are all noticeably absent in the humdrum sequel, leaving Keith Ferguson, Tony Hale, Laura Post, and occasional Queen frontman Adam Lambert as some of those attempting to make something from the car-crash script.

Fans Reject Megamind Sequel

Fans slammed the Megamind 2 trailer the moment it finally dropped, as it was revealed that Hollywood A-lister Will Ferrell wouldn’t be reprising his role as the uber-intellectual supervillain in The Doom Syndicate. Rather, Megamind Rules! — another Peacock original project — voice actor Keith Ferguson was tasked with filling Ferrell’s shoes. However, it turns out that the absence of Ferrell is just one of the sequel’s many issues for audiences sounding off on Rotten Tomatoes. Robert l writes:

“This movie is the worst thing I have ever seen. The animation is painful to watch. They couldn’t even get Will Ferrell or any of the other original actors. The writing is AWFUL and they changed minions name to chum. Never watch this movie. The most painful thing though is knowing this is supposed to be Megamind.”

Megamind was once the second-highest grossing film of Ferrell’s career. However, his appearance in 2023’s bright-pink blockbuster, Barbie, changed all that. Nevertheless, Megamind’s success created a devoted fandom, which is why fans are undoubtedly upset with the sequel. Another Rotten Tomatoes user may have provided the most damaging commentary of all. Dahoom attar wrote:

Despite this, there is still that 10% who have found something to enjoy in Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate, such as Mister S, who writes:

“I love Megamind Vs The Doom Syndicate! The animation isn’t as bad as everyone’s making it seem. It’s not as good as the original film, but that doesn’t make it BAD! Some scenes were actually phenomenal, visually (such as the dance-off scene). And besides, the animation isn’t everything. We got to learn more about #Megamind, watch him learn more lessons about human behaviour, being a team player, and appreciating his friends. It was incredibly funny, heart-felt, and clever!”

Ferrell did previously reprise the role of the likable supervillain in 2011’s short film Megamind: The Button of Doom, but it seems that more than a decade later, he either was not asked to return for the streaming release… or wisely chose to dodge it. While the original movie did not receive a phenomenal amount of praise, when compared to its sequel, Megamind was a bona fide classic among Ferrell’s best movies.
