To All the Boys star Lana Condor’s next romantic comedy movie, Worth the Wait, sounds like Crazy Rich Asians meets Love Actually. The actress is known for her role as Lara Jean Covey in Netflix’s teen rom-com franchise which, based on the titular trilogy of novels by Jenny Han, includes To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, and To All the Boys: Always and Forever. The trilogy ended in 2021, though the franchise is continuing with the spin-off series XO, Kitty which focuses on Lara Jean’s little sister Kitty.

Now, the To All the Boys star’s next rom-com movie, Worth the Wait from director Tom Shu-Yu Li, has been revealed. According to Variety, the project starring Lara Condor was recently acquired by The Exchange and executive Nat McCormick described the story as “a modern approach to Love Actually with a star-studded Asian American cast.” Read his full comment below:

A modern approach to Love Actually with a star-studded Asian American cast, Tom made a heartwarming rom-com that is truly worth the wait.

Director Tom Shu-Yu Li’s credits include The Garden of Evening Mists and Winds of September.

Everything We Know About Worth The Wait

As indicated by McCormick’s comment, Worth the Wait will take a “modern approach to Love Actually,” referring to the 2003 rom-com that delves into different aspects of love through 10 separate but loosely interrelated stories involving predominantly British characters and cast. Similarly, Worth the Wait will chronicle several interconnected stories involving multiple Asian-American strangers as they find love, repair relationships, and create new connections over the course of a year. Worth the Wait will be set in Seattle and Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

Other than Condor, the cast also includes recognizable stars like Andrew Koji (Bullet Train), Sung Kang (Fast & Furious), and Elodie Yung (Daredevil). Ross Butler (Shazam!), who also appeared in the To All the Boys franchise, is another member of the cast. Because of this star-studded Asian American cast, Worth the Wait is drawing comparisons to Crazy Rich Asians which, due to its own star-studded cast and big box office success, has become something of a touchstone for modern Asian-American rom-coms. Whether Worth the Wait follows in its footsteps remains to be seen.

Worth the Wait is currently in post-production, though a release date has yet to be set.
